Seeing how many have suffered in the distant and near past, my heart and eyes and pain are full for them.

I know that the Lord had never intended for man to be subdued, controlled, beaten, (since His is a message of love) but there are always those who succumb to the power of greed and don't care for the human factor of life but themselves.

I am forever grateful that the Lord had provided a home for those who will seek it out. A land promised freedom so long as they remember Him.

Happy Independence Day!

  1. Elizabeth,

This is a very thought provoking post. Thank you.

I wonder if these thoughts go together or if they are even what you meant: "I know that the Lord had never intended for man to be subdued, controlled, beaten,"

A sentiment that I love, thank you.

Then there is this thought: "I am forever grateful that the Lord had provided a home for those who will seek it out."

Do you mean a home in heaven as you believe or actual soil as in American soil?

And then there is this: "A land promised freedom so long as they remember Him."

Is this a biblical land or the land of the Native/Indian? I am not sure if you mean that God promised the land that already belonged to the Native/Indian to Europeans/Americans/Us. History is what it is. What happened happened. Much of it is horror. I'm just trying to get clear without going on about the sticky use of the pronouns "HE or SHE" to describe God.

With openness and a friendly heart, Alex.

  2. Hi Alex! I'm glad to see that you've visited my other blog home. ;)

Sorry to have caused you any confusion. Here with what I said: "I know that the Lord had never intended for man to be subdued, controlled, beaten," I had truly meant that as we were sent to earth from Heaven, the Lord wanted us to be happy with all the gifts He'd bless us with: family, health, scriptures, talents to make life more comfortable like building, writing, music..., and more. (God is light and love, not hate and darkness.)

It is the choice of individual men who come to power that abuse mankind--like Hitler, Edward 1's oppression of the Scots--I mentioned them in my post because they were a few of our world's oppressors.

I had intended this: "A land promised freedom so long as they remember Him," in a biblical sense, though I can see how it can refer to Heaven as well! ;)

This land has always been blessed--set aside if you will--by God. The native Americans were early settlers from the old biblical world whom the Lord had guided here (a group was led here from the time of Babylon's Tower, and during King Zedekiah's rule before Babylon's destruction.) They've lived here ever since.

Here is the entire reason why I posted this (aside from the obvious of this great Nation's birth):

    President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote:
"In preparation for this restoration the Lord raised up noble men, such as Luther, Calvin, Knox, and others whom we call reformers, and gave them power to break the shackles which bound the people and denied them the sacred right to worship God according to the dictates of conscience . . .
'Latter-day Saints pay all honor to these great and fearless reformers, who shattered the fetters which bound the religious world. The Lord was their Protector in this mission, which was fraught with many perils. In that day, however, the time had not come for the restoration of the fulness of the gospel. The work of the reformers was of great importance, but it was a preparatory work.' "
(Church History in the Fulness of Times, p.8,9)

What this means is, throughout time, the Lord's hand has been with His children so that we could have a country in which freedom of religion could be practiced without tyrannical oppression.

(Christopher Columbus finding the Americas was by no means an accident.)
