Writing and being a Full Time Mom may sound like an oxymoron but it's not and can be done. We are living proof of that! Lately I have noticed that I have been hiding behind the Mom badge and I haven't let the Writer come out! If I let this go on too long I start getting resentful, depressed, and caged. So today is the day ladies. If your inner writer has been hiding behind the Mommy badge then let her out for just 1 hour today (you may not be able to put her back but if you have more time then let her go...). Pick a time where you will not be interrupted for a solid hour (it may just have to be tonight at midnight). Stick to that time and write ,write, write knowing that several others are there with you in spirit as well as keyboard, soda, ipod or whatever helps in hand! I can't wait to hear from you and see how successful you have been.
Also let me know how you find your balance between writing and full time mommying :)
This is kind of my season to write, now. My kids all go to school full time, so I write during the day when they are gone.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is tempting to write when they are home. If they are busy with friends, I sneak to write, but if they are just hanging out, I force myself to be "present" for them. And I am always glad I did.
It's hard to find a balance. Like Pink, most of my kids go to school. But I do have to force myself to stop writing when they aren't at school. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't. But I like your challenge for us today. I'm going to make sure that I set aside an hour at least today to devote to writing (and try to stay off the internet). LOL
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm there. Ten o'clock tonight after my son is asleep and my house is clean.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm lucky - the little guy we're adopting needs lots of time to learn (he was severly neglected before he came to us), and we're under doctors orders to watch as much educational TV as I can get him to sit still for. We've also been working on learning his letters, and his aunt and uncle bought him a little laptop computer that plays games teaching his abc's - so we sit at the desk together and work on our computers, and I type while he watches TV. I suppose it's an odd situation, but it does lend itself to my writing.
ReplyDeleteErm... okay, anybody but me disturbed by Jessie's comment? Hello? Once the house is clean? Clean? What is this word? Does anyone know what it means? Can someone help me here? Seriously. I feel i'm so out of it writing like crazy that I haven't learned all the new words/jargon for 2009. Definition please... thanks
ReplyDeleteAww.. Weston... you are so lucky.
Thanks for the post Mary! I'm off to keep my family happy so I can write! Jenni
I accept your challenge. My husband teaches a night class on Mondays, so I will be writing for at least an hour after I put Benjamin to bed. The real challenge will be making sure my house is in order before then so that I can sit down with a clear mind and do my best writing.
ReplyDeleteI accept as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm not feeling well today, but I guess we have to suffer for our craft.
You don't know how many badges I've been hiding behind! The mommy badge, the college student badge, the enrichment leader badge, the person in charge of the 200+person family reunion badge! But I have to quit hiding, something will ALWAYS come up, it will NEVER be the perfect time to write. So I'm going to do it!! I better do it now, or I'll forget and hide behind yet another badge! The I'm-going-to-sit-on-the-internet-and-waste-time-because-I-deserve-it badge.
ReplyDeleteJenni-Don't be too disturbed by my "clean." It is after ten, I'm blogging, and, my house is still not clean. However, I'm with Candice-My mind doesn't feel creative when my house is messy. It seems you can't have both...a clean house AND a novel. By the time my house is clean, I've left little time for writing. What to do...
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments and great suggestions! Hope you all snuck a little writing in! I was able to finish editing a craft video. Look out for it on my blog www.olsens7.blogspot.com
