I went to an ANWA writer's conference last weekend. ANWA stands for American Night Writer's Association and it's a writer's group for LDS women. They are in a few states and also have an online group that meets in a chat room once a month. If any of you are interested the website is www.anwa-lds.com. So in one of the workshops I went to, children's author, Scott Emerson, said that we should stop trying to be writers because we already are. He says that writers are born that way because we are wired differently, we feel emotions deeper, we see things with more depth, etc. I want to test this theory. A couple of weeks ago, my husband was talking to an FBI profiler (don't worry, he didn't do anything wrong). The profiler gave my husband a situation that he uses to help profile people. I will give you the situation:
A women goes to a funeral of a family member and meets a man. She clicks with him right away but she doesn't get his name or phone number because she doesn't feel that a funeral is an appropriate place for that. But later she is regretting this decision and really wished she had gotten his phone number. Two months later, her sister dies...
That's the situation, now you need to post the conclusion that you came to. Let's just say that my husband was worried at my answer because it was supposedly the answer a serial killer gives!! LOL! My defense is that as writers we have to think differently! I'll tell you my answer after I get at least 12 other comments! So everyone has to reply, or you'll never know my answer!!
LOL! Well duh, here's her opportunity to meet up with him again, right? LOL! I mean, isn't that what everyone thinks? LOL! Jenni
ReplyDeleteOh! Well, I mean... erm... okay... so now that I'm thinking a bit deeper.. I'm sure she's devestated her sister is dead. LOL! Okay, probably SO devestated a normal person wouldn't have looked to see if the man was there, right? OMGosh! I'm evil huh? Or gasp! maybe my first instictive answer is wrong and it really means I'm not a writer? right? LOL! Ack! Jenni
ReplyDeleteThere Nikki! I've posted three times! I can't wait to find out what the answer is... LOL! I have to know if i'm a serial killer or not! LOL! Jenni
ReplyDeleteFirst off is he a family member that she clicked with....gross!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay really is he gonna really be at this funeral too?
She is probably too sad to be thinking of this guy....
Or wait... the sister clicks with this guy too at the funeral. She on the other hand did get his name and number... that is why she is dead.... he killed her! gasp!!!gasp!!! gasp!!!
Jenni-Hey that's cheating putting three comments on! LOL! And I guess I didn't really expect you to have the serial killer answer! You are way to nice and sweet for that! LOL!
ReplyDeleteTiff-You came up with the same demented answer as another friend of mine. But apparantly it's not demented enough because it's still not the serial killer answer. I'm starting to get nervous now. Maybe I am wierd, should I go check myself into an asylum now? LOL!
Okay there is more to this story!!! you see the dead sister never told the other sister that she was seeing this guy because she saw her talking to him too. The dead sister kind of feels guilty about getting his number because she thought he was cute too. Hence the reason that she never told her sister about this guy. Now the sister is dead and the other sister is left wondering what happened... Only to see the man she met at the other funeral and he was all to consoling. Unfortunualty she has no idea that he is her sisters killer or that he goes to funerals to find his victims....
ReplyDeleteTiff-LOLOL! What do you mean you're not a writer? This is a story in the making! And I don't know why you think the guy being family is gross, I mean really, our cousin did marry our uncle!! LOLOL!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had the same initial idea as Jenni, which was, that if he was at the first funeral he is going to be at this one and she has the chance to meet him again. But now you have me all curious. I'm thinking, what is the serial killer answer?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea!! I mean she's going to be devastated about her sister, but at the same time maybe she'll need something positive to come out of the whole thing. Personally, I don't think I could ask for a number at a funeral of someone that was that close to me. Now I'm dying to know what you said!! I'll comment again if I need to. LOL! or stalk you until you tell me. What would the profiler think of that?
ReplyDeleteWhat if her sister committed suicide because she was lonely. Then she sees the guy at her sister's funeral and she is determined not to die alone like her sister did. This motivates her to get his phone number.
ReplyDeleteSadly, morbid, but still an answer... and a comment! Aha!
WAHOO!! I just asked my brother, Wyatt this same situation and he answered the same as me!! Wait? What does that mean? LOLOL! Only need one more comment now!
ReplyDeleteCan it be from the same person? Because I need to know. Tell me now! LOL
ReplyDeleteOkay, this has to be the serial killer answer, if by serial killer, you mean self-centered, self-serving, and sociopathic:
ReplyDeleteShe killed her sister just to see if the guy would show up at the funeral. I mean, if they're supposed to be together, they're supposed to be together, right?
Now I feel dirty.
Wow... Inkmom... just wow...
ReplyDelete;)
Ooh! Inkmom... so serial! It's awesome! heheheh! OK nikki cough it up woman!
ReplyDeleteMy answer was (Drumroll please!)...She killed her sister to get his phone number!! Ink mom wins!! Course the prize is just knowing that you think like a serial killer!! LOL! I guess that means we should be writing thrillers. Cuz you know Mary Higgins Clark would have said the same thing!!
ReplyDeleteLOL, as soon as she posted it I knew that must have been the serial killer answer... it's so sociopathic. LOL :)
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy. I thought once you said it I would be like, oh yeah that crossed my mind. But no, that didn't even cross my mind. I think you're right, you guys should be writing thrillers. That's awesome. And so sociopathic. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was afraid that I was the only one whose first thought was that she offed her sister to meet the guy again.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree, though, if i had the mind of a serial killer I could write mysteries - but I can't.
Hahahah! That was sooo the farthest from my mind... LOL! That's it.. you can tell I was all about the romance! All I thought of was Great! She can see him again! LOL! or at least the first thing was that! hahah! Great post nikki! Jenni
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating guys! That was great fun, and at least I know I'm not the only who thought that way!! This was a way selfish post, I just wanted to feel a little bit more normal!! LOLOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming to the ANWA Writers Conference, Nikki. It was nice to meet you, and I'm glad you got worth from attending.
