Unfolding A Rose

It is only a tiny rosebud, A flower of God's design;

But I cannot unfold the petals, With these hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers Is not known to you and I.

GOD opens these flowers so sweetly,

While in my hands they fade and die.

IF I can not unfold a rosebud,

This flower of God's design,

Then how can I think I have wisdom

To unfold this life of mine?

So I'll trust in Him for leading, Each moment of every day.

I will look to Him for His guidance, Each step of the way.

The pathway that lies before me,

Only my Heavenly Father knows.

I'll trust Him to unfold the moments, Just as his He unfolds the rose.

This was a beautiful poem given to my daughter in YW. How do you think it applies to us as writers?

  1. I love this Elizabeth! Thank you for sharing! And I really think this is a lot like writing in the sense that we don't want to force it. How many times do we get to the end of a book and then just happily jump and skim our way through it--forcing the choppy ending, instead of taking our time and allowing it to unfold as it was intended. LOL! Am I the only one who does this? And honestly, I don't know how to fix it either. I just get too darned excited to finish the book, which in turn makes my life so much harder when I have to go back and rewrite it all. LOL!

  2. I love this poem. Very well written, it spoke to me on so many levels.

It's good to be reminded that the power to develop doesn't rely on my power at all. *Phew*

Great post, I will carry these words in my spirit.

  3. Thank you so very much! I am glad you enjoyed this poem as much as I did!

Sometimes I rush the endings, Nikki! You are not alone!

  4. Roses are my favorite flower.

When we write, we often can't see the beginning from the end. But Heavenly Father can. We need to trust ourselves, trust our writing, and trust HF.
