Meet Sugoi

Hi all, I invited a guest blogger for today's post. Sugoi is in my ward and just started writing recently. She is kind of a lurker on our blog, so I insisted she introduce herself to the rest of you. She loves our blog, she even has a notebook especially for all the writing exercise we put up! So she is joining in the fun today, give her a great big welcome! Thanks, Nikki (PS. I took her wedding pictures, otherwise I wouldn't have had a picture of her. I hope you like this one, Sugoi.)

Hey! I'm Sugoi Harris, I've been following this blog since it started so I'm pretty excited and a little intimidated to get to post something. A little something about myself... my name is actually thanks of a spelling error, but seriously I'm happily married for just over a year so I guess were kind of still newlyweds. No kids yet but we're trying to hopefully soon enough. I'm also fairly new to writing, I ran from anything academic in school so I never even tried to write or read much. Though recently I've started reading and Nikki challenged me to write - I couldn't say no to a dare, I had to at least try so I did. I loved it! Now I'm hooked - thanks Nikki.

Lately I have been stuck, the stress from life has taken over my brain and locked up whatever creativity lurks within. I'm sure that I'm the only one to ever have this problem right. So I need to do something to get the ideas flowing. For this exercise I want you to take a picture, any picture and briefly describe what is going on. Maybe something will come from it, maybe it won't but hopefully it will help to kick start some your creativity. Here's mine:

He noticed the slight limp in her walk and the awkward angle at which she held her pack. He knew that the trip was taxing on her but she didn't let it show in her face. She was like her mom - durable.

  1. The crystal blue water pooled at the bottom of the cascading waterfall. The waves from the ocean lapped up onto the white sand. The cove was protected by the jutting rocks on either side. The cliff all around the beach cut it off from the outside world. This was the place, this was where the treasure was hidden.

Thanks Sugoi! That was fun! Welcome to the blog, you will have to comment more often!

  4. The clouds hung overhead, dark and gray, making promises that the day was about to get worse. She threw her hood up just as the first fat droplet landed on her cheek. She wiped it with the back of her hand and took a deep breath. By the time she got to the car she knew she'd be soaked.

Thanks, Sugoi! It was so nice to "meet" you. Good luck with your writing endeavors and don't be a stranger.

  5. The little elf wasn't quite sure of the big red guy and his fluffy white beard, but he sat on his lap anyway. The main object was of course, the candy cane he'd seen all of his brothers and sisters get. This particular elf loved candy canes. So if all he had to do was sit on some shady guy's lap and smile a bit for the camera, then sure. Okay. I guess he could do it. As long as he got to hold that candy cane first! Jenni

  6. He stood next to the plane, hand resting on the propeller. Everything was in order for his mission. Soon he would be flying over enemy territory. He took one final look at the camp, then his eyes traveled up to the flag that waved gently in the breeze overhead. It was always the last thing he looked at before pulling on his goggles and climbing into the cockpit.

Thanks for the exercise. Great Job guest blogging. Now you'll have to participate more often. ;)

  9. I guess I'm a little late, but...

The prairie grass tickled my bare ankles. The lone bleating of a cow pierced the sultry air, heavy with memories. Before me lay the crumbling stone wall that once held up my home, my life. I tucked a few stray white hairs behind my air and turned my face to the sky, as smooth and empty and blue as the ocean. My daughter's car idled behind me, and I didn't have to turn to see the crease of worry on her brow. One last look and I would go.
