God Mend Thine Every Flaw

Yesterday, for the closing hymn in Sacrament Meeting we stood and sang America the Beautiful. My heart did that swelling, too-big-for-my-chest thing, and I paused a little after singing..."God mend thine every flaw." I'd never paid attention to that phrase, until now. And it made me think that, like a person, our country is not perfect. I think there is a lot of disappointment that it isn't, but where people are imperfect, a country will be imperfect, too.

But the beauty of it all? Just like, through our Heavenly Father, we have the possibility for perfection...so does our country. Because He can mend a country's every flaw, as long as people continue to hope and worship and pray. And just like we, in our imperfect state, are beautiful and glorious Spirits...so is America. It is Beautiful. It is Glorious. Happy Independence Day.

  1. Love the post. I have a hard time singing of listening to the patriotic songs without tears streaming down my face. Have a wonderful 4Th of July. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
