On my personal blog I posted a while ago about fifteen reasons why ebooks are better than print. While I still stand by my personal preference, I have to report that the demise of the humble paperback has been somewhat exaggerated.
How do I know? I had a royalties statement recently which showed that I had sold a paltry 39 copies of Honeymoon Heist in ebook format, and a rather more acceptable 1,027 in print. The same is true of my only self-published work, The Saved Saint. It hasn't sold a single ebook this year, but is selling steadily in paperback.
So it seems that despite the convenience of ebooks, many people still prefer the hard copy.
May I say how much I enjoyed The Saved Saint? It’s one of those books that keeps popping into my mind even though it’s been quite awhile since I read it. I have it in ebook format but I may need to get a physical copy. It’s something I think all members of our faith should read. :-)
ReplyDeleteGosh Kasey, you're worth your weight in chocolate. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI prefer physical books, no question. But I'm loading up my kindle app for my vacation, all the same. :)
ReplyDeleteReaders are a funny bunch, aren't they? I used to teach Great Expectations to my sophomores. I had the entire thing annotated in this musty 1955 dog-eared paperback. Every time I taught it, the whole book would fall to pieces, but that particular edition, the size, the way it smelled, the typography...there was just something about it. I went through 2 more copies of the EXACT same edition, same year (that each fell apart after I taught it again)...there was just something comforting about that book. Couldn't imagine teaching it on my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI have been known to read ebooks, but, like Katy, I prefer a physical book. I especially loved Merry's comment; I still have my entire collection of Little House books and Anne of Green Gables books from when I was a girl even though they are totally falling apart. Just the sight of my yellow-bound Little House set in its box makes my heart happy. And, nothing can beat the smell of a book!
