Twitterpated??

I did it, I finally tried Twitter...again.  I have to admit it's been difficult for me to get into.  I kept trying to compare it to Facebook and found it very confusing when I tried to do that.  The fact is, it isn't anything like Facebook.  It's more like IMing to people you never met.  It took me downloading the app on my iPad for me to really start using Twitter.  For some reason I prefer the way it's set up on the iPad than the way it looks on the regular computer.

I still consider myself a newbie on Twitter and could use your help on figuring it out.  I kind of get what hash tags are but am still learning how to use them.  Can we make up any hash tag we want?  For instance, could we have a #MMW that we put after some of our posts and it would be like a conversation between all MMW's?  So far I'm mostly following celebrities because they are easy to find on there, but how do I find other writers, agents, and editors to follow?  What are the best writing hashtags to read?  Yes, I need alot of help!  Please comment below and tell me if you Twitter and if you do...what are your favorite people to follow and favorite hash tags to look up.  Oh, and tell me how to find you so I can follow you and become twitterpated!!

  1. Awesome blog! I'm kind of a Twitter newbie myself, and I agree, I don't like it near as much as Facebook but I'm giving it a shot! Come find me @kearytaylor :)

  2. Yes, you can make up any hash tag! Then if you use tweet deck it can become a chat room. For example #wordmongering becomes a chat place for writers to meet at the top of the hour. Then everyone writes for 30 mins and comes back to report what how many words they've accomplished. Then we all give each other a big pat on the back.
They are great way to get the word out about things. Being creative in what you hash will also attract attention!

  4. List yourself as a writer, everyone else will find you (sort of an "if you build it, they will come" thing).
    I'm AnnHunter82 on there

  5. @PGersch I'm now following you on twitter. I think I'm listed as a writer, not sure though!
I actually got brave and tried Tweet Deck as well. I haven't gone stark, raving mad yet, so I'm doing alright! Thanks for everyone's helpful advice!

  6. I'm kind of new to twitter as well, but the more I use it the more I like it. (Even more than Facebook sometimes...*gasp*)

@Jen, thanks for the info! I had no idea.

    I'm @cc4900, and I'm following you Nikki.

  7. I've been on Twitter for about a year, but am far from being a Twitter expert. #amwriting is a common hashtag for writers when you're tweeting about writing. My Twitter name is @StephanieMBlack.

And I've looked at TweetDeck a couple of times but haven't remotely begun to figure out how it works.
