The Waiting is the Worst

I finished my latest bout of editing on my novel last Saturday and sent it off to my prospective editor. Now I find myself with little ambition to return to the computer. I've tried several different things, but find myself thinking and wondering how my manuscript is being received. I can't seem to get my mind off it. I don't want to move on to book two until I know that book one is okay and I can't get enthused about starting something else. I'm bored!

So, tell me what you would do in this situation. I could use some ideas.

  1. I'm thinking a party would be a good idea!! Reward yourself for doing it and submitting it. We have to reward ourselves for the act of finishing instead of waiting for the publishing world to reward us. That's my problem, I don't take the time to tell myself congrats on the finished story, I just think of the rejections and then I get stopped. So that's my suggestion, have fun and don't think about writing.

  2. Good luck!

(I know of one MS you could read in the interim ;) . Only if you still want to; it's okay if you don't.)

  3. Oh Jordan, you are soooo right. I totally forgot. I'm such a space cadet right now. Send that puppy right on over. I'd love to read through it for you. And thanks for the reminder...sheeeesh. Where was my head?

  4. Nikki, Love the party idea. Only problem is most of my friends are in Utah and I'm in Idaho. Anyone want to drive up here, I'd be happy to party...LOL

  5. Christine! Where in idaho do you live? (I live in Brigham City--is it close enough?) That sounds nice--a party to celebrate US!
I know how you feel, though, about feeling devoid of writing. That is what i've been going through for over a month now.
You know what I am thinking? Just like in real life, when you are at your lowest, the best way to get out of it is through service. So I am going to get away from writing and read more and help others with their writing like with you and Jordan!

  6. I think you need to go to Disney World. Indefinitely. Or at least until you hear back. =)

  7. Enjoy. Take a bubble bath. Redecorate and buy something nice. Oh yeah, and don't forget chocolate. Or gasp! Actually read a book for fun. LOL! Imagine that? LOL! Congrats! I am so excited for you!

  8. I would love to be in your shoes...one manuscript written and the next one in the wings.

In the meanwhile, I'd take a little trip, or maybe tackle something different: pottery, homemade sushi, painting a room in your house. And continue simmering those thoughts for your next book.

  9. HOORAY FOR YOU! IT IS DONE! We'll have a party for you right here on the blog! Anyone want to play charades?

Last time I submitted a manuscript I felt like my brain had just given birth. I think it took me three weeks before I could write again. I like Terresa's suggestions. Go bake some bread or something.
